'A Frequency Response Test'... SUCCESS!!!

Postby SCREC » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:24 am

Digital Perceptions & The Solar Cathedral THANKS YOU IOWA!

‘A Frequency Response Test’ was a HUGE success drawing nearly 200 people through the door for our initial launch event. We’d like to say that we’ve proven our worth to the owner’s & management team at ‘Downtown LIVE’ & we’ve been offered a monthly event to be held the first Friday of every month moving forward!

We couldn’t have done it without YOUR SUPPORT!

‘Frequency Friday’ will be a platform designed for the ‘Pound Control’ performance featuring extended sets by ACG3 aka The Goat & Matt Rissi while providing a solid foundation for some of the best DJ’s that Iowa has to offer to gain exposure via 2 Hour extended set / opening time slots. There will also be some surprise Headlining Guests from all over the Midwest invited out to play for our Iowa crowd in the upcoming months.

Expect a phat sound system, drink specials, good vibes & a hometown feel while partying it up with your local brothers & sisters.

A few things…

This past weekend was a test in many ways. There was only 1 bar tender on hand because our turnout was larger than expected. As a result of this drink ‘waiting time’ was around 10-15 minutes which kept some people away from the dancefloor for longer than they wanted to be. This will not be a problem moving forward as we will have a minimum of two bar tenders on hand moving forward.

Another change that we were curious to test out was the layout of the club / sound system / dancefloor / etc…

Who liked the new set up?

Personally, the SC & DP crews think that utilizing the stage in the back was a better fit for what we do. Granted, dancing on carpet is not very fun but the dancefloor area is smaller & easier to keep packed should a good portion of the crowd decide that they’d rather be sitting down in one of the various ‘chill’ areas available in the club.

For our next show we will be setting up the sound system differently to gain a bit more square footage on the floor as well as to keep people off of the stage & out of the view of the DJ’s & their performances. For some reason when some people get a few drinks in them they feel the need to dance on stage RIGHT in front of the DJ that people PAYED MONEY to see. This also poses a problem by increasing the risk of the DJ Booth being knocked over.

Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas from our supporters will be considered with 100% focus on increasing the quality of our event, so feel free to voice your opinion. Furthermore, we will be compiling a collection of photos & videos for this new event. If you’ve been snappin’ away with your sweet new digital cameras that you got from Santa this year please share your pics & vids with us! You may send your files to thesolarcathedral@yahoo.com or digitalacg3@yahoo.com.

If you’re on Facebook & you’ve yet to add yourself to our music groups, please do so! Search for ‘Digital Perceptions Electronic Experiences’ or ‘Solar Cathedral Music Events’ to find us! We need as much help & support as possible to keep this monthly rolling. A lot of people have expressed their appreciation for the piles of work & effort that we pour into our events & we are constantly asked by people what they can do to help us promote & grow our events. Aside from your ‘AttenDANCE’ the best thing you can do is to simply invite your friends to our events group so that they can receive our e-newsletter’s that will keep them posted with the details for our upcoming dates.

Thanks again everyone, we will see you on the dancefloor!

Good to hear Frequency Friday will continue on. Unless Vanilla Ice is performing, I can't see how a random band would bring in as many people as a monthly EDM event.

Overall, I had a good time. I wouldn't say it was spectacular or out of this world, but it was a nice, friendly outing with fellow EDM lovers. It's a good initial run so this monthly can only get better!

I still have mixed feelings about the setup...
Plus side:
-It was dark near the stage area so it can encourage people to start dancing (remember Piano Lounge for Thanksgiving? Lots of light = people are initially skurrred).
-Smaller dance floor gives the illusion of a 'packed' floor for most of time.
Minus side:
-The dance floor location didn't seem like the most natural place to be, since it's a small carpeted area between the stage and bar area.
-Dancers could get in the way of those trying to walk back to the restrooms.

That place has always had a wierd configuration in my opinion but you gotta do what you can with it.

Regarding the drunkies getting on stage... I don't mind them as an audience member especially if it's some good eye candy :) However, we all know they are more likely to spill drinks or knock equipment over... so probably better safe, than sorry.

One thing about the sound system: When Hector was playing, I was worried that it didn't have much 'push'. But once Pound Control came on, the system was cranked up quite a bit and really got thumpin. The restroom sounded like it was ready to cave in when I was taking a piss; lots of bass vibration haha.

Looking forward to next time!

good feedback mr. paxton...

addressing your comments:

-not 'out of this world' or 'spectacular'... we've definitely seen better vibes but all in all a good show. towards the end of the night there WERE people straight JUMPING up and down with their fists in the air which leads us to believe that there were a LOT of 'noobs' there that were having a LOT better of a time than us 'heads' have experienced. but you're right, it's only going to get better.

-dancefloor location... definitely darker & a bit 'unnatural' feeling but the venue is tough to work with. the RED FRIDAY set up was ideal for many reasons but we rarely could fill a floor that big... aside from that the way the sound was set up made it REALLY loud when trying to order a drink at the bar. on top of that the little 'divider' wall that's between the bar & the dancefloor is a little awkward & people have to actually 'enter' the dancefloor area should they want to get down. that makes it a bit tougher for the shy to get involved in the mix.

-restrooms... not an issue YET buy may be in the future. we'll probably run a rope & create a 'walkway' to the bathroom which will ALSO keep people from getting up on the stage behind the decks.

-people on the stage... not to sound sexist but we actually don't mind when a few ladies are gettin' crazy on the stage... it's the creepy guys that are at the club ALONE that nobody really knows that think everyone wants to watch them dance... sorry dudes, you've got to go.

-sound volumes... we can't be PUMPING it while the club is filling up. it doesn't make sense & just like the energy format of the evening it has to be slowly increased. as the floor fills up, the volume will be increased. if we don't follow this formula it makes for a pretty intimidating dancefloor... (loud AND empty... not very inviting...) we gave hector a few sound increases throughout his set & that's the way it will be for our events moving forward. the volume will most definitely be maximized when the floor is full & the pound control experience has begun.

thanks for your input, MUCH appreciated!

Can you help me shed some light on what would make it spectacular? I ask so I have something to strive for...

Agreed. Have any good ideas on how we can make it better? We're still playing with it so any suggestions would be helpful.

Id say it was mostly on my end since my close friends decided to go somewhere else that night and I wasn't trashed. A small part of it may have been the new stage location; its hard to pinpoint if that 'bothered' me significantly. No matter what though, you guys are always full of energy on stage and I know that helps me and everyone else stay energized & loosened up.

Compared to the Red Friday setup, I feel the location of the stage doesn't make the DJs the focal point of the night. It's like you have the bar, VIP area, and all the tables/chairs in the former dance floor area as a main focus... then if you get past the pile of people at the bar, you'll discover there's a DJ setup dumped in the back! ;) I'm slowly convincing myself I like the Red Friday setup better, but as Rissi mentioned there are some negatives to consider (which I generally agree are/can be issues).

That place was originally designed for an entirely different intent and audience than what it is currently for. If I was the owner and money wasnt an issue, it'd be nice if the bathrooms & stage area locations were swapped so the stage area wouldn't seem so bottlenecked for live performances.

I wish I could give you better suggestions, but honestly you guys made really good use of the stage area you were provided with.

I make things sound worse than they really are... it helps to remember that at least we HAVE a sizable venue willing to work with us. And for that we should be thankful. :)

In my Opinion I thought RED FRIDAY setup was better .but this is in no way effected my night .just saying that i thought if i had to pick one it would be the older one. it seemed like more of a left /right fullness..and i think what somone said above about getting through the bar crowd and seeing a big empty dance floor can maybe effect something who knows. but like i said this didnt effect me but maybe some..2 bartenders will keep people happy and away from the bar and o

Hookers, maybe?

I'll let Rissi handle that department with Woody's on April 9th.
